The Cowichan
Valley is a little jewel centrally located between the cities
of Victoria to the south and Nanaimo to the north. Whatever
it is you look forward to on your vacation to Vancouver Island,
you will find it here in the Cowichan Valley. The region has
a mild climate and spectacular natural beauty for outdoor
pursuits such as horse-back riding, fishing, kayaking, cycling,
hiking and swimming in lakes, rivers or the beautiful Pacific
ocean.
Food and
wine enthusiasts won’t want to miss the wealth of local
farms, wineries, cheesemakers, bakeries and the Saturday Farmer’s
Market in Duncan. There are also a number of excellent restaurants
for both formal and casual dining.
Those
interested in history and culture will appreciate the many
examples of First Nations traditional art, crafts and jewelry
which can be found throughout the valley, particularily in
Duncan which is famous for the locally carved Totem Poles
displayed throughout the city.
Music
and theatre can be enjoyed year-round in a variety of venues,
and there are many unique shops to discover in the area. Antique
shopping can be very rewarding at the Sunday Antique Market
at Whippletree Junction, as well as numerous antique shops
scattered throughout the valley from Ladysmith to Shawnigan
Lake.
